Keira tried to put her worries to the back of her mind as they continued on their day of sightseeing. The National Garden was, at the very least, a great choice by Cristiano. It truly was beautiful. There were vine-covered walls, olive trees everywhere, and beautiful bridges and ponds. Keira even saw a peacock for the first time in her life.

“Wow, look!” Keira exclaimed, pointing it out to Cristiano. “It’s so gorgeous and so much bigger than I’d ever imagined.”

She took a photo to send home to Bryn.

“I love peacocks,” Cristiano told her. “And in this setting they look even more majestic.”

They paused on one of the small stone bridges, resting their arms against it as they looked down at the lily pad–covered water flowing slowly below.

“I’m glad we came here,” Keira said. “It’s very tranquil. A great place for me to write.”

Cristiano looked over at her, squinting against the sunshine. “I thought this would be a nice place for a romantic stroll,” he said. “Not for working.”

Keira looked back down at the water. Romance, once again, had not been on her mind at all. She was inspired by the beauty of the place, thinking of her career, enjoying the moment. There were even some ancient ruins enclosed within the garden, including Corinthian columns and mosaics. There was a lot to see and Keira loved the tranquility of the place. She tried to take some notes, but Cristiano tutted or sighed every time she got too involved in writing.

“We should probably head to the restaurant now,” Cristiano said once they’d finally completed a full circuit and seen everything there was to see. “I made quite an early booking.”

Keira wasn’t used to eating before the sun had set, at least not at this time of year, but she knew how much Cristiano loved his long, lazy dinners. Hopefully it would put him at ease as well, being in a setting where he was in his element. She found herself looking forward to it, recalling how lovely the experience had been before.

They left the gardens and strolled the short distance to the restaurant Cristiano had booked. From the outside, Keira could tell that it was a very stylish place.

Cristiano opened the door for her, and Keira felt her skin bristle a little at another overt chivalrous display. She didn’t like the way he made it seem like he was doing her the most gracious favor in the world by holding a door, or allowing her into the elevator first. Milo had completely cured her of any sense of chivalry,
